my downrigger humms like a ******* is it just the stainless wire cable(200lb)and if so can using mono or braid fix the problem. am running an 8lb bomb with the livie around 10 metres behind..also does anyone know if this vibration scares off the fish a bit???????? placing a wetsuit stubbie cooler over the pulley while it was down seemed to dull it a bit but it was still annoying

i'll throw a lure into a puddle not to see if there's anything in there but cos I'M GONNA catch the biggest fish in there

The wire is the cause of the hum, if you use heavy braid you can cut it down but i don't think it removes it, maybe changes the noise. Look at something decent in breaking strain, maybe 150lb braid and watch out for fraying especially if you constantly run it at that depth.

I'm not sure if it puts the fish off.

You could try a couple of metres of mono between the cable and the bomb. Also, a "hook" off the transom that you can hook the cable through rather than running directly off the downrigger boom might also help (both have reduced hum for me in freshwater).

Failing that, braid should help also
