TAILOR DECISION DEFIES LOGIC:"QLD" The announcement today by the Minister to continue to allow the current catch of tailor by commercial fishers is extremely disappointing in view of the amount of information available on the importance of the tailor fishery to the average Queensland family angler said Mr Doohan, Chairman of SUNFISH QLD...

SUNFISH CLEAR ON TAILOR FUTURE: Mr John Doohan, Chairman of SUNFISH QLD representing the 880,000 recreational fishers in Queensland today clearly stated that his organisation was not against the proposed tailor bag limits. Since 1994 our members have supported the principle of recreational catch limitations where the fish stocks are in trouble provided there is a commensurate realistic reduction in commercial catches.

MINISTER NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR FUTURE TRAWL KILLS: "The Commonwealth Minister for Environment and Heritage, Dr. Kemp must now accept responsibility for all future trawl by-catch incidents within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park." That was the message to Dr. Kemp from Sunfish Deputy Chair and environmental coordinator, Vern Veitch.

STATE FISHING CLUBS LEAD BY EXAMPLE: Mr John Doohan, Chairman of SUNFISH QLD today applauded the initiative of the Queensland Amateur Fishing Clubs (QAFCA) in introducing catch limits into their State Competitions. The program of events to be fished at Stradbroke Island in July this year will be fished under bag limits for all species as well as some weigh in sizes well above the State legal lengths.
