SHIMANO BACKBONE ‘ELITE'
RODS
Since its release three years ago, the
Shimano Backbone rod series has been very well received by anglers
looking for honest performing sticks at a lesser price than some
of the premium rod ranges. Expanding on this concept, Shimano have
now released a slightly more upmarket Backbone series - the ‘Elite'
collection.
The Elite lineup includes troll rods, game rods, boat rods, spin
rods, baitcasters - even a handy rock and beach rod - and they
look a million dollars with their dark grey mesh blanks and black
and gold bindings. All feature the distinctive gold ‘Backbone'
graphic up the spine of the rod and represent great value for money.
The 10, 15 and 24 kilo troll sticks have Fuji fixed guides and
tip, long fighting foregrips, Slick Butts and a gold aluminium
reel seat and matching gimbal, while the 15 and 24 kilo game rods
are a little more upmarket, with roller guides, Slick Butts, gold
aluminium reel seats and gimbals, and a flattened fighting foregrip
with a protective bind over the front.
For anglers who are into a number of different offshore fishing
styles, there's a super versatile 7' trigger grip boat rod that
can be used for jigging, trolling, casting and bait fishing with
six to ten kilo line. Additionally, there's a 6' 6” jig/spin rod,
a gutsy 6' 6” boat rod for 15-24 kilo line, and a do-everything
7' snapper rod.
In spin rods, there are 6', 6' 6”, 7' and 8' rods for all sorts
of fishing applications from bait soaking to Squidgy flicking.
All have fit-over ferrules (not spigot fittings) for added strength
and security, Fuji guides, sanded cork grips, and a graphite reel
seat.
There's also 5' 6” light and medium baitcasters with quality fittings
that include Fuji guides, and are perfect for everything from impoundment
bass to mangrove creek barra.
Finally, rounding out the Backbone Elite range is a 10' 8-12 kilo
overhead rod ideal for surf and rock fishing applications with
lures and/or bait.
